From 6 to 8 March, the Berliner Festspiele will once again devote three days to the future of debate culture with ‘Reflexe & Reflexionen’. The second edition of the programme series is again curated by the political scientist Saba-Nur Cheema and the historian Meron Mendel.

After the successful launch in June 2024 with the title ‘7 October, the Gaza War and the Debate in Germany’, the curators will continue to address the question of how constructive debates are possible in the face of polarisation and populism in the second edition of ‘Reflexe & Reflexionen’ in March 2025.

Their starting point is the realisation that public discussions are increasingly conducted in an agitated and hostile manner, while at the same time trust in state institutions as mediators is dwindling.

Their programme explores the question: Why is the culture of debate failing today? What role do social media, inequality and ideological conflicts play? And how can a vibrant practice of public debate be fostered?

‘Reflexes & Reflections’ brings together artistic and discursive positions to negotiate social problems and controversial topics.
