Driven by dark thoughts in her everyday life and a constant racing heart in her body, Johanna ends up stranded in a surf camp on the Algarve. Instead of returning home after two weeks of summer vacation, resuming her career as a voice actress and saving her relationship with Rosa, she stays on the Atlantic coast.

She starts working in the surf camp, falls in love with two women at once and seems to feel a little lighter with each day in the waves. But with the onset of autumn, what she actually wants to leave behind catches up with her again.

House of Wind is a surf novel without surfer boys, a summer novel with a stormy winter. The belated coming of age of a child who grew up too soon. And the story of a queer East German woman who is looking for her own voice.

The author herself and ensemble member Mareike Beykirch read.

“A book of radical beauty.” Antje Rávik Strubel
