Archaeological Time Travel

Africa has the longest history of humans and their ancestors on the planet. Human history began here, and from here new cultural techniques and nutritional strategies were carried throughout the world.

The continent fascinates with its natural diversity. People had to adapt to constant (environmental) changes and develop new survival strategies.

These experiences have never been as important as they are today. Archaeological finds, images and written evidence offer insights into art, crafts, technology and the environment of bygone times and provide evidence of exchange over long distances. Settlement excavations reveal urban structures, while at the same time nomadic lifestyles existed.

‘Planet Africa. An archaeological journey through time’ is a unique cross-continental exhibition project that focuses on African archaeology.

The exhibition tour, which will be on show in several cities in Germany as well as at several locations on the African continent, will shed light on more than two million years of human history, combined with over 200 years of research tradition. The multitude of research results will be presented in six thematic modules, in which key findings will be summarised. The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge.
