The monthly organ concert in June will be performed by the organist of the Sophienkirche Maximilian Schnaus with Pentecost music from several centuries. The focus of the concert is Olivier Messiaen's "Messe de la Pentecôte" from 1951.

This masterpiece of modern organ music combines the mysticism of Pentecost with Messiaen's unmistakable musical language:

Bird songs, complex rhythms and luminous harmonies. The program is complemented by Pentecost works by Martin Herchenröder, who is known for his powerful and sonically innovative organ works.

And of course Johann Sebastian Bach cannot be missed, whose works continue to shape the tradition of sacred music and organ music to this day.

  • Maximilian Schnaus, organ
  • Works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Olivier Messiaen (Pentecost Mass) and Martin Herchenröder

During the organ concerts in the Sophienkirche, a video broadcast in the nave allows you to experience the fascinating hand and footwork of the organists up close. “Music in the Sophienkirche” is a series of events organized by the Evangelical Church on the Weinberg in cooperation with the Elisabeth Cultural Office.
