NoonSong - Song & Prayer

Persecuted, forgotten and famous - In this NoonSong, you will hear composers between the religions: the
Catholics Byrd and Sweelinck, who worked for the Anglican and Calvinist
churches respectively - and survived the religious turmoil unscathed thanks to
their legendary reputations during their lifetimes.

Salamone Rossi, on the other hand, was probably the first composer to bring polyphonic Renaissance music into the synagogue. He probably died during anti-Semitic riots.

  • Preces: Thomas Morley (1557-1602): Preces & Responses
  • Tagespsalm: Psalm 65 Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621): O dieu, la gloire
  • Wochenpsalm: Psalm 146 Salamone Rossi (ca. 1570-ca. 1630): Halleluya haleli
  • Canticum: William Byrd (ca. 1540-1623): My Soul doth magnify my Lord
  • Choral: Karl Friedrich Schulz (1784-1850): Danket dem Herrn

NoonSong - what's that?

Every Saturday at noon, locals, visitors to Berlin, music lovers and admirers of architecture alike attend NoonSong. It is a concert and a church service in equal measure.  Eight professional singers from the vocal ensemble sirventes berlin, led by Stefan Schuck, sing choir music. The repertoire ranges from music from the Renaissance to contemporary compositions.
