The building housing the PalaisPopulaire has a checkered history. During the GDR era, it was a café that evolved into a trendy, "cosmopolitan" cultural hotspot with popular club nights. Almost every evening, a disco with dancing to hip-hop, funk, soul, and R&B was on the agenda.
