Around ten sculptural works are dedicated to Max Liebermann's striking facial features. The life-size plaster and bronze portrait busts by artists such as Edmund Moeller, Emil Orlik, Georg Kolbe, and August Kraus not only depict his appearance but also capture his personality. The selection is complemented by a pastel by Liebermann himself.

The exhibition illuminates the diversity of the medium and tells the stories behind the works – from artist gifts and counter-gifts to provenance and restitution.

As part of the One-Room Exhibitions series, the Brandenburg Gate Foundation is expanding its permanent exhibition "Liebermann's World." In a compact format, it focuses on Liebermann's personal and artistic networks.

Previous editions have focused on Theodor Fontane (2019/20), Richard Dehmel (2022), and Martha Liebermann (2023).
