The world people live in is constantly changing, and everyone needs to adapt. This will intensify due to numerous crises such as climate change, war and pandemics.



How can people care for themselves and others in times of global threats? How can their bodies deal with the world?


The research focuses on the importance of care, both as a concept and as a practice. Care is English and describes all activities of caring and caring.
The artists see care as a political practice in their society to build resilience and community. Care is also work – it involves emotional effort, time and energy.


Therefore, they need mutual care and community building. The capitalist system in which they live does not support caring practices that are nurturing, sustainable and reciprocal. They must find their own ways and practices together so that sustainable care strategies can be established, a more accessible world can emerge and barriers can be broken down.


The knowledge and understanding of Care is shaped by the experiences that the artists of this world have. The team's understanding is shaped by the fact that they are queer, that they were socialized as women, that some of them are disabled and that they are migrants.


How can artists find and translate this understanding of care into their artistic practice? How will the engagement with your art change if you focus on care?


In the ada residency, the artists are focusing on making the piece accessible to blind and visually impaired people with the help of their accessibility dramaturg Ari.


They also want to create a relaxed space for different bodies. There will be various seating options such as bean bags and other comfortable options. The room offers a variety of sensory experiences, including oranges, fluffy materials and also “care agents”.


Care Agent is English and could be translated as welfare officer. These care agents are people who build a bridge between the audience and the performers. They have a supportive and assistive role and are an important part of creating the caring space they want to create.


"neworks - Aesthetics of Access" is a performance series that focuses on works in which accessibility for disabled, deaf and/or chronically ill viewers is an integral part of the artistic concept.


According to the definition of Diversity Arts Culture, “the term ‘Aesthetics of Access’ is English and means aesthetics of accessibility. It describes a practice in the performing arts: Accessibility is built into art production from the outset and with an artistic aim and is not added later.


neworks 2024 shows three works by Berlin artists who have found their very personal perspective on allowing their artistic processes to be inspired and influenced by means of accessibility.
