Sonya Schönberger

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. People who can tell us about this time are disappearing, but reports, artefacts and archives remain - often unprocessed.

During Passiontide, artist Sonya Schönberger's installation ‘Nails’ is dedicated to the topic of forced labour. The starting point is 13,000 nails that were discovered during an archaeological excavation on Tempelhofer Feld - once supporting elements of the barracks of a forced labour camp.

A dialogue between past and present, art and church space emerges on the horizon of Passiontide, bringing suffering, sacrifice, guilt and responsibility to life.
