In collaboration with the Tresor Foundation, Galerie Bene Taschen is delighted to present the black and white works of Berlin photographer Miron Zownir in front of the legendary Club Tresor.

Zownir's haunting works from his Berlin Noir series will be shown over an area of 100 metres on the MegaFence in front of the Kraftwerk and the Fence Entrance of the Tresor.

In this large format, Berlin from the 1975s and the present-day city come together.

Then as now, Miron Zownir captures the city scenes and protagonists with his Contax camera in a radical, raw photographic form. The DNA of Berlin - from before the fall of the Berlin Wall to the present day - is engraved in his work. The nightlife, numerous ‘subcultures’ and some individuals on the fringes of society are reflected in Zownir's works, as are the zeitgeist and the unique history of the city of Berlin.

Known for his authentic exploration of urban reality, Miron Zownir confronts us with a unique blend of wildness, freedom and intimacy. His photographs are a reminder of the constant evolution of the city and the immortality of its subculture, but also shed light on the social hardships of city life.

Zownir's photographic career began in West Berlin, where he started working with analogue black and white photography in 1975. He then spent a year in London in 1978/79, followed by an eight-and-a-half-year stay in New York City from 1980, where his photographic documentation of New York's subculture in the 1980s shaped his reputation as the most radical documentary photographer of his generation. After stints in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh, Zownir returned to Berlin in 1995, where he has lived and worked ever since.
