The exhibition "The Women of Hoheneck – Photographs by Dirk Vogel" presents 20 black-and-white portraits: 19 women and one man who was imprisoned with his mother as a child. Accompanying texts tell the life stories of the portrayed subjects.
The women of Hoheneck were imprisoned in the GDR women's prison for criticizing the regime or seeking to leave the country. While in prison, they were subjected to arbitrary treatment, harassment, and cruelty – experiences that left deep scars. Years later, Dirk Vogel portrayed them photographically.
The exhibition is part of the 28th Federal Congress of the State Commissioners for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship and the Federal Foundation and Federal Commissioner for the Victims of the SED Dictatorship.
