About Lygia Clark
Lygia Clark (1920–1988) was a pivotal figure in the Neo-Concrete
Movement, a Brazilian art movement that sought to merge art with human
experience. Born in Belo Horizonte and later teaching in Paris, Clark
challenged traditional art by involving the audience directly. Her works
evolved from geometric paintings to movable sculptures, wearable objects and
even therapeutic tools.
By making the viewer a participant, Clark blurred
the lines between art and life. Her later works explored themes of healing
and community, using art to foster self-awareness and emotional release. This
retrospective not only celebrates her contributions to modern art but also
highlights the transformative potential of interaction and sensory engagement
in creative practice. Through this exhibition, visitors can explore Clark's
artistic evolution and witness her impact on global art movements. It's a
rare chance to delve into her philosophy and experience her vision firsthand.
