As night falls over Berlin, the city's museums come alive during the Long Night of Museums (Lange Nacht der Museen). This popular event is a unique opportunity to explore Berlin's art, history and culture in all its diversity outside of regular visiting hours. For one night each year, museums and exhibition venues across the city open their doors from dusk until the early hours of the morning, offering exhibitions, performances and many other exciting activities.

Originally created in 1997 to draw attention to the city's museums and cultural institutions, the Long Night of Museums has since inspired over 120 similar events worldwide. This one-night celebration of art, culture and history is an opportunity for Berlin to showcase its creative spirit and bring together locals and visitors alike.The event highlights the extraordinary diversity of Berlin's museums, from the world-renowned collections on Museum Island to lesser-known spaces that offer a more intimate view of the city's artistic and historical narratives. Top tips for the Long Night of Museums
- With over 700 events across 75 museums, it's best to plan your route in advance. Look for express tours if you want to cover more ground.
- Shuttle buses take you easily from one venue to the next. Berlin's public transport system is also well-connected, with many museums located near underground and S-Bahn stations.
- Many participating institutions are wheelchair accessible. Those labelled 'Barrierefreiheit geprüft' are certified accessible, ensuring a smooth experience for all visitors.
- While many museums offer snacks and refreshments, you can also grab a bite from food trucks stationed at central event locations.
