International festival for avantgarde-jazz & vibrant experimental music since 2012

Five minutes to twelve, an era is coming to an end: The A L’ARME! Festival is celebrating its last edition in the Radialsystem, the finale, with Vol. XII. The last chapter will take place from August 8th to 10th - it tells of encounters, development, transgression and change.

The result is a program that this year, too, constantly shifts and ultimately dissolves the boundaries between improvisation, experiment, noise and performance. A L’ARME! is now doing the same with itself. The last edition once again creates space for new things.

The Japanese noise legend Keiji Haino represents the festival's special practice of presenting artists in different constellations and facets: he will play two performances for the finale, once accompanied by baritone saxophone and drums, once as a soloist on guitar and microphone.

Long-time companions of the festival are the Norwegian drummer Paal Nilssen-Love and the Berlin guitarist and bassist Caspar Brötzmann, who share the stages of the Radialsystem with up-and-coming shooting stars: for example, the Argentinian Berlin resident and noise saxophonist Sofía Salvo, who is presenting a world premiere, or the African-American top drummer Savannah Harris from New York City, who forms the club-friendly avant-garde jazz quartet Økse with the Haitian turntablist Val Jeanty, the exceptional Berlin bassist Petter Eldh and the Danish alto saxophonist Mette Rasmussen.

The same applies to the Norwegian-German duo Naaljos Ljom, which has gained international recognition in recent years with its danceable, microtonal update of "Nordic Folk" and will organize the after-show party for the long Saturday night. I Like To Sleep from Trondheim, on the other hand, present brutal, semi-improvisational avant-garde rock for amplified vibraphone, baritone guitar and drums.

The last evening is dedicated to Monika Döring, with a programme full of innovation and energy in honour of the legendary concert organiser.

A L’ARME! Festival Vol. XII

Since 2012, the A L’ARME! Festival has opened up new perspectives on jazz and experimental music, enabled unusual collaborations and shaped a generation of listeners.

With a programme of music, art and performance that captures the spirit of the times and anticipates developments, A L’ARME! has become a magnifying glass for current trends, an amplifier of contrasts and an international reference point for transdisciplinary improvisation.

These achievements will outlast the festival - as a memory, as an attitude and as a space of possibility.
