Kamilla Szíj from Budapest is a draftswoman who uses the line as her central means of expression, which she extends into space in a radical reduction. This line, the shadow of a string, may seem static, but it is actually moving and flickering before our eyes. Between the string and its shadow, a field of hypotheses, explanations of the world, scientific ideas and visions unfolds.

Kamilla Szíj is fascinated by quantum physics, which makes previously unprovable assumptions that the world consists of tiny particles that are constantly moving and vibrating. She is looking for a connection between this idea and the thesis of Kazimir Malevich, a prominent artist and theoretician of early modernism. A hundred years ago, Malevich described the generator of change in art as a "latent element". This invisible, subsurface element undermines the established rules and becomes dominant in a new order. This changer, a constant in time, is difficult to grasp and more to guess than to know.

The latent elements alternate, resistance becomes normal, and then something new comes in again. Everything remains in constant motion. Kamilla Szíj examines this process with great sensitivity, researching the dynamics of resistance and organization in structures as well as the eternal persistence of the latent element.

Multipurpose Hall is the name of a project space that has been in different locations since 2003, currently in Berlin Pankow. For the project series lasting over three years, a total of nine female artists will be invited to develop a spatial drawing for the multipurpose hall. The tenth work will be by the project organizer Claudia Busching.

The artists' on-site work is always recorded with a video camera.

A final exhibition is planned with all 10 positions as well as a film about the different ways of dealing with the medium of drawing, in which women are particularly present and innovative.
