For two years, the artist Emilia Tikka worked with the reindeer herder Oula A. Valkeapää and the artist Leena Valkeapää.

The result is films, drawings and an installation that mediates between the traditions of the nomadic Sami reindeer herders and the challenges that threaten this way of life today.

Emilia Tikka with Oula A. Valkeapää and Leena Valkeapää

Two worlds collide in the exhibition: Sami reindeer nomadism and the bioscientific discipline of epigenetics. The work speculates on a different kind of science that emerges from the relationality of time and the relationships of nomadic reindeer worlds. It deals with the idea of shared, embodied memories that live on in humans, reindeer and the Johtingeaidnu - migratory routes preserved over generations.
