The Aesthetics of Resistance is one of the major works of postwar German literature. Originally published between 1975 and 1981, Peter Weiss’s magnum opus is a remarkable historical novel about antifascist resistance movements in the lead up, and during the Second World War.
At the same time, the book interrogates the relationship between the praxis of resistance and aesthetic forms. Against the backdrop of a renewed rise of global fascisms, the book offers valuable hints as to how to organize and work politically today.
To celebrate the release of volume 3 in English some 20 years after the first volume appeared, Vierte Welt will host a launch featuring talks and readings with people involved in the project and scholars and activists.
Readings and talks by: academics Jenny Willner and Alexander Lin, activist and organiser Simin Jawabreh, and translators Charlotte Thießen and Joel Scott.
Copies of all three volumes will be available for sale on the night.
The event will be (mostly) in English
