Joanna Jones (born 1945) has developed a unique visual language over the past forty years that takes up elements of Abstract Expressionism, but in her own, more radical and immediate way.

Joanna Jones´ works are characterized by dynamic energy and intense expression, giving viewers a deep insight into her keen sense of color and its nuances. Jones applies the paint exclusively with her body, which is less like frottage and more like a dance-like, flowing movement process that brings her inner emotions and thoughts directly onto the canvas.

The resulting depth effect, achieved through the layering of egg tempera and various textures, is impressive. Her paintings seem to have no clear beginning or end and radiate calm and contemplative power, while at the same time evoking an intense, sensual perception of the colors.

As a young artist, Jones was strongly influenced by the American painter and performance artist Carolee Schneemann and the British performance artist Carlyle Reedy, whose performative approaches fascinated her and accompanied her artistic path.

Joanna Jones lives and works in Dover, UK. After studying at the Northwich College of Art, she continued her education at Byam Shaw in London. She obtained the National Diploma of Design in painting at Goldsmiths and graduated from the Royal Academy Schools in 1970.

Jones has been honored with numerous awards and scholarships, including first prize in the Greater London Council painting competition (1969), a scholarship from the Künstlerhaus Balmoral (2000) and the Arts Council England "Year of the Artist" award (2001) for her work at Samphire Hoe.

Her works have been presented in prestigious international exhibitions, including the Royal Academy, London; the National Gallery of Canada, Montreal; the Frankfurter Kunstverein; the Künstlerhaus Balmoral, Bad Ems; and at the London Biennale.

The artist will be personally present at the vernissage.
