From 20 May to 12 October 2025, the Jewish Museum Berlin is dedicating an exciting exhibition to the Jewish publisher and department store entrepreneur Salman Schocken.
American author Joshua Cohen explores Schocken's cultural legacy and interprets selected exhibits from the museum's collections. The story of Schocken Press is at the centre of the exhibition, and Cohen uses it as a starting point to examine current issues of culture and capital, department stores and museums, and (re)appropriation.
The exhibition combines historical perspectives with contemporary reflections and offers a fresh look at the interactions between economy, culture and society.
