Weekend tours of the Stasi archive at the historic site

"A monument of surveillance": The Stasi Records Archive stores 111 kilometers of files with personal data collected by the state. The exhibition "Insight into the Secret" illustrates the importance of this archive. A guided tour offers deeper insights.

For 40 years, the Stasi secured the rule of the SED and expanded in Lichtenberg and the entire GDR. In 1990, courageous citizens saved the secret police's files from destruction and opened Mielke's headquarters to the public.

Today, the Stasi Records Archive provides information about the activities of the Stasi and its files. After the tour, visitors can view the sample file collection. This contains reproductions of original Stasi documents, including case files, personnel files of Stasi officers and files of those affected who have agreed to publication and thus provide an "insight into the secret".
