In the new permanent exhibition, excerpts from 2,000 years of German history are presented as an immersive experience, from the uprising of Germanic tribes in 9 AD to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the summer fairytale of 2006.

Immersive worlds allow visitors to immerse themselves in the various epochs during a one-hour tour, while a number of historical exhibits and interactive media help them to understand the era.

In the Deutschlandmuseum, visitors embark on a journey through time to twelve epochs of German history.

They are there at the major turning points. They walk through an ancient forest, a medieval castle, a baroque printer's room, a trench of the First World War, a shopping arcade of the Wilhelminian period, a flat of the economic miracle and a Berlin S-Bahn.

The rooms are not digital, but real: the walls can be touched, the floor creaks. Dozens of loudspeakers let you hear time, specially composed smells let you smell time. 3D projections extend the rooms into the digital realm.

The aim of the exhibition is to provide an overview of German history without presupposing any prior knowledge.
