book presentation
In their book "The History of the House of Bahlsen. Biscuits - War - Consumption 1911-1974" (2024), Hartmut Berghoff and Manfred Grieger describe the history of a medium-sized company from the late German Empire to the Federal Republic. At the same time, they offer detailed insights into the economic and political history as well as the social and consumer history of a time full of upheavals.
- How did the middle class respond to National Socialism?
- How did family entrepreneurs think and act in the face of the political and economic upheavals of the 20th century?
- How did they shape their relationship with their workforce? And how were foreign forced laborers treated in the "Third Reich"?
The authors explore these questions on the basis of sources that have not yet been evaluated.
