Research for a sustainable architecture of the future

You can build with mushrooms. The exhibition "Closer to Nature" shows a first habitable example of this: the Tiny House MY-CO SPACE. Its wooden substructure is clad with 300 panels of a composite material made from local tinder fungus and agricultural waste.

In the two-part event, biotechnologist Vera Meyer and architect Sven Pfeiffer report on how MY-CO SPACE was created from the power of mushrooms - and together with them. In 2021, both founded the Berlin collective MY-CO-X, with whom they have been researching the development of mushroom-based building materials ever since.

Afterwards, the fascinating world of mushroom materials actually becomes tangible. Their surprising properties can be learned about using various samples. It offers amazing insights into how diversely the potential of mushrooms can already be used today.

The event takes place as part of the AEW - Architecture Exhibitions Weekend 2024.
