The Gestural Reflective and Inquiring Tales (G.R.I.T.) project presents an exhibition by fourteen female painters that explores how the fundamental themes of painting - gesture and physicality - influence artists and viewers.

The artists involved engage intensively with essential aspects of contemporary painting and see it as a collective practice that requires contemplation. Through their international contributions, the exhibition aims to create a connection across Europe.

It will first be shown in Berlin and then in Dundee, Scotland. In both locations, the project develops a model for sustainable artistic exchange and includes not only the exhibition but also symposia and a public program. The aim is to expand the discourse through a publication.

G.R.I.T. brings together fourteen female painters and illuminates how painting interacts with viewers by focusing on physical engagement. The acronym of the title - gestural, reflective, inquiring tales - suggests the complexity of this relationship. The artworks in this exhibition invite contemplation while reflecting the process of creating the paintings. They are thought-provoking and captivating, but require deep engagement. G.R.I.T. does not try to simplify the mysterious relationships of painting.

The artists involved are:

Angove, Jacopo dal Bello, Jenny Eden, Rao Fu, Ina Gerken, Alena Hil, Erika Krause, Eglė Otto, Alex Roberts, Geraldine Swayne, Anita Taylor, Henry Ward, Waldemar Zimbelmann and Michaela Zimmer.

The exhibition is curated by Alex Roberts, a British painter living and working in Berlin. Roberts curates exhibitions and platforms for artistic exchange and explores how painting looks at viewer
