GRÉGORY DARGENT SOLEIL D'HIVER - CRÉATION
(FR) Grégory Dargent oud, sound and image projection
For his oud solo piece, Grégory Dargent sets out on a journey of discovery. He questions the longing of a father who was expelled from Algeria as a child in 1962 and his own, rather distant affiliation to the Arab world.
Travelling through Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon, Greece and Iraq, he made sound recordings, filmed and captured the time in these countries photographically, where the Oud is very popular. All of this serves as background for the music of his instrument in Soleil d'Hivers (Winter Sun), enhanced by electronic effects and soundtracks to create a multi-layered universe.

The first programme presented by the ONJ's new artistic director, flautist and composer Sylvaine Hélary, pays tribute to one of the great women of jazz, Carla Bley, who passed away in October 2023. To reimagine the multifaceted work of this American artist, who was always fiercely independent and tremendously experimental, Sylvaine Hélary and the inventive saxophonist Rémi Sciuto have delved deeply into her universe to create an oeuvre that alternates between orchestral frescoes and moments of chamber music, delicate songs and unleashed rhythms, shedding light on the wide range of musical styles, exciting rhythms and daring harmonies of Carla Bley.
