Reading with Beatriz Serrano
On May 13, Beatriz Serrano will read from her novel “Geht so” at the Buchbox! in Kastanienallee. The evening will be hosted by translator Christiane Quandt.
Marisa is at the end of her tether. Her bullshit job at an advertising agency in Madrid, where she only ended up by chance, bores her to death, and she can only endure the daily hamster wheel of being an employee by numbing her senses with a mixture of bizarre YouTube videos and tranquilizers. When a team-building weekend comes up, Marisa's anxiety disorder spirals out of control.
Cracks begin to appear in her carefully maintained façade - and the idea of taking various drugs with her on the company outing may not necessarily help her to get her life back on track.
For all its wit and sarcasm, Beatriz Serrano's first novel addresses many of the deeper current issues of our modern existence: “Geht so” is the novel of the moment on quiet quitting and bullshit jobs, mental health and burn-out, alienation and loneliness.
Beatriz Serrano, born in 1989, studied journalism. “Geht so” is her debut novel. Beatriz Serrano lives in Madrid.
Christiane Quandt is a translator from Spanish and Portuguese. She lives in Berlin.
