Music in an era of extremes
The Ensemble Musica Libera invites to an extraordinary musical journey through the turbulent 1920s, an era brimming with political tensions, social upheavals and artistic innovation. The music of this period uniquely reflects the extremes of the era.
With the end of the First World War and the start of a new decade, socio-political tensions and uncertainties erupted in an almost unleashed art and culture scene and a search for identity and innovation. Immerse yourself with the ensemble in the dazzling, exciting world of the 1920s, which not only gives us a look into the past, but also has a lot to say about the present.
From Franz Lehár's romantic operetta "The World is Beautiful" to Kurt Weill's dark and satirical "Threepenny Opera", the ensemble plays pieces by Alfredo Casella, Igor Stravinsky, Francis Poulenc and many more, thus reflecting the broad musical palette of the Roaring 20s.
The musical selection ranges from elegant operetta melodies to French neoclassicism, catchy light music and the unconventional sounds of modernity.
