Joshua Michael Tillman, better known as Father John Misty, moves artfully between poetic melancholy and sharp cynicism.

Born on May 3, 1981 in Rockville, Maryland, he developed a passion for music at an early age, taught himself to play drums and guitar, and recorded his first demos at night while working in a bakery in Seattle during the day.

Tillman's career began inconspicuously when he played drums in various bands while studying in college before starting to write his own music.

After his first solo performances during a tour with singer/songwriter Damien Jurado, he released his debut album "Minor Works". But his time as drummer for the successful folk-rock band Fleet Foxes from 2008 to 2012 brought him his breakthrough, even though he remained in the background in this role. In 2012 he left the band to start a solo career as Father John Misty - a move that turned out to be a turning point.

Father John Misty burst onto the music scene with his debut album, Fear Fun, but his real breakthrough came in 2015 with I Love You, Honeybear.

This autobiographical album, filled with bitter reflections on love, loss and mortality, received critical acclaim and built a loyal fan base. Songs like Chateau Lobby #4 and the provocative video for Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings, featuring Aubrey Plaza, cemented his reputation. The album also earned him BRIT Award and Grammy nominations.

Now Father John Misty returns with his sixth album, Mahashmashana. The cryptic title, derived from the Sanskrit word for "great cremation ground," again hints at deeper themes.

The first single "Screamland", a seven-minute piece accompanied by Alan Sparhawk (Low) on guitar and accompanied by a string arrangement by Drew Erickson, shows him at his best: dark, epic and emotionally charged.

Other highlights of the album are "I Guess Time Makes Fools Of Us All" and "Josh Tillman And The Accidental Dos". Critics such as Pitchfork and The Observer praise the lyrical depth and musical diversity of the work.

With the release in November 2024, the excitement is building and fans can look forward to the upcoming tour in April 2025, which will also take Father John Misty to Berlin.
