The Berlin Salon at the Gemäldegalerie
To mark its 10th anniversary, the Berlin Salon will be showing an exclusive group exhibition of young designers in the Gemäldegalerie. The exhibition is being curated under the direction of Christiane Arp, Chairwoman of the Fashion Council Germany, in collaboration with the Gemäldegalerie and is one of the highlights of Berlin Fashion Week.
The presentation presents a wide range of different designs by 55 designers whose work is setting new impulses in fashion.
The Berlin Salon is a renowned platform for promoting young talent in the fashion industry and takes place every year during Berlin Fashion Week. It offers young designers the opportunity to present their collections to an international audience. Current positions in German fashion design as well as high-quality accessories from selected manufacturers are shown.
Staging in the past and present
Cranach, Titian, van Dyck, Reynolds - the Berlin Gemäldegalerie not only has one of the world's most important collections of Old Masters, its outstanding holdings also open up an extraordinarily opulent fashion panorama. The clothing and accessories in the paintings reflect the power, identity and individuality of the people depicted: topics that could hardly be more current.
The dialogue between fashion design and the Old Masters reveals numerous references between the present and the past: fashion and art revolve equally around aspects such as representation, self-expression, sexuality and gender roles. The group exhibition thus not only illustrates the close connections between painting and fashion, but also the contemporary designers' engagement with issues that already played an important role in the painting of past centuries.
- A special exhibition by the Gemäldegalerie - Staatliche Museen zu Berlin in collaboration with the creative agency Nowadays and Museum&Location
