The artistic practice of Alex and John Gailla focuses on the image—the paintings, created entirely in ink, expand and explore the boundaries between photography and painting, creating a dialogue between these two forms of expression. Starting May 14, the two Italian artists Alex and John Gailla will present their exhibition "Crucifixion" at St. Thomas Church in Kreuzberg.

Alex & John Gailla, Zabo Chabiland (sound artist)

Alex & John were born in Switzerland and have lived and worked in Berlin since 2005. They began their collaborative artistic work in 2001.

They have presented their works in exhibitions at Scoop Art Basel / Grand Palais Art Paris Art Fair / Art Fair Istanbul. In 2017, they participated in the Venice Biennale - Arsenal 100, Berlin Art Week, and in 2021 at Monopol Art Space in Berlin.

The "Crucifixion" series, which they will present at St. Thomas Church, was photographed in a slaughterhouse in 2000. It questions the relationship between humans and animals and is an expression of the abused, weakened body, its vulnerability, and its finiteness.

Paintings from the "Big Horses" series will also be presented.

Exhibition runs from May 15 to June 22, 2025
