80 years since the end of the war: Discussion event at the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst

To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe, the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst invites you to a discussion event exploring the significance of May 8th and the development of the culture of remembrance in Germany.

The focus of the event will be how the perception and commemoration of May 8th have changed over the decades. Social, political, and cultural upheavals have shaped collective remembrance as well as the role of memorial sites and historical institutions.

The Museum Berlin-Karlshorst is taking this opportunity to reflect on the development of remembrance practices together with experts, to question its own role as a place of remembrance, and to discuss current challenges for a diverse culture of remembrance.

  • What input can the museum contribute to today's debate?
  • And how can a culture of remembrance be shaped with a focus on the future?

These and other questions will be discussed.

With:

  • Prof. Dr. Thomas Sandkühler (Humboldt University of Berlin)
  • Dr. Gintarė Malinauskaitė (Lithuanian Institute of History, Vilnius)
  • Dr. Jörg Morré (Museum Berlin-Karlshorst)
  • Moderated by Ingo Hoppe (radio journalist, Berlin)

Registration for the evening lecture is required: kontakt@museum-karlshorst.de. Seats are limited.
