The pianist Elena Bashkirova comes from a traditional Russian musical family. Born in Moscow, she began her studies at the age of 15 with her father, the legendary piano teacher Dmitri Bashkirov. In 1978 she left the Soviet Union and moved to Paris. Her musical development was shaped by her collaboration with conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Sergiu Celibidache and Michael Gielen. She has lived in Berlin with her husband Daniel Barenboim since 1992.
