digitization laboratory in the exhibition
The museum's collection comprises 30 million objects. As part of its future plan, the museum is working to digitize this extensive collection piece by piece over the coming years. To do this, it is developing and testing innovative technologies and workflows. Various methods and techniques that are used in this process are presented live in the digitize! exhibition hall.
A special highlight was the development of a digitization line for insects, which was created in collaboration with partners from business and science. In October 2021, a pilot project was launched in which 500,000 insects from the museum collection were digitized using a semi-automatic assembly line. The resulting data sets will soon be available in the data portal.
Now the museum is going a step further: the hall is being redesigned and new digitization stations will enable employees to digitize other objects from the collection in addition to insects.
Visit the hall and gain fascinating insights into the digital development of the collection. Discover exciting stories about the research and the museum's valuable treasures!
