The film shows the development of the Fennpfuhl housing estate with interviews with the first occupants followed by a book presentation.

The GDR's housing construction programme was adopted in 1971. To solve the housing problem as a social problem, new flats were to be built in the capital Berlin and the GDR district towns.

In Berlin, the Fennpfuhl residential area in the district of Lichtenberg was the first major new housing development in this context. The foundation stone was laid in December 1972 and Betina Kuntzsch, in collaboration with Georg Balzer, has used archive material from the 1970s, researched by Tanja Scheffler, to trace the development of the housing estate.

The builders and planners of the residential area have their say, and pictures from the time of its creation can be seen, which vividly illustrate the intentions with which residential areas were built at the time. In the second part, today's residents have their say. In interviews conducted by Georg Balzer with residents of several generations, different positions on the perception of the urban development concept of the Fennpfuhl residential area are discussed.
