with Boaz Levin . Curator . C/O Berlin Foundation

What stories are hidden in the archives of photo studios? Located in the heart of Marseille's working-class district of Belsunce, Studio Rex, run by the Armenian-Cypriot Keussayan family between 1933 and 2018, became a point of contact for many migrants. An archive that combines personal and historical memories and focuses on the often invisible human stories behind migration.

In the Curator's Tour, Boaz Levin guides us through a large part of the archive collection. He talks about the role of photo studios in visual culture, the relevance of (self) representation and challenges that can arise when working with archives and telling stories of so-called vernacular photography.
