David Claerbout is internationally acclaimed for his work of still and moving imagery that blur the boundaries between photography, film, and digital media. Originally trained as a painter, Claerbout shifted his focus to the concept of time, developing a practice that explores memory, duration, and perception.

His works often suspend single moments across extended durations, revealing time as sculptural and experiential. Major pieces like Sections of a Happy Moment (2007) and The Bordeaux Piece (2004) reflect his interest in narrative deconstruction. Claerbout has exhibited widely at institutions such as Centre Pompidou (2007), SFMOMA (2011), and De Pont Museum (2009). His work is held in Hamburger Bahnhof’s collection, as well as other prominent collections including MoMA and Guggenheim, New York.
