Double book presentation with Jutta Braun, Hans Joachim Teichler and Anno Hecker

Two new publications examine the relationship between sport and politics in the 20th century: In her book "Competition of Systems. Sport in Divided Germany", historian Jutta Braun examines the development of the sports systems on both sides of the Wall and vividly shows how, in the context of major international events, these became representatives in the competition between political systems. Braun also sheds light on the role of outstanding sports idols, the shadowy area of doping, and the role of fans and their subculture.

The volume "Sport in the German Dictatorships of the 20th Century" includes historian Hans Joachim Teichler's research into sports policy under National Socialism and in the GDR. While the Nazi regime wanted to prove the superiority of the "Aryan race" through sport, the GDR dictatorship tried to demonstrate the superiority of socialism over capitalism.

After the presentation of both new publications, there will be a conversation with the authors and Anno Hecker, sports editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
