In this special Christmas concert, works by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750) and his musical successor, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809 - 1847), are brought together.

You can clearly hear how both composers build their compositions on the basis of traditional choral melodies. Both succeed in giving the Advent expectation and Christmas fulfillment a musically comprehensive and tangible form.

Bach will perform excerpts from the Christmas cantata “Dazu ist erscheinen der Sohn Gottes” BWV 40 and part IV from the Christmas Oratorio BWV 248, Mendelssohn’s chorale cantata “Vom Himmel hoch” (MWV A 10), the psalm cantata “Kommt, lasst uns anbeten” (MWV A 16, op. 46) and part 1 from the oratorio fragment “Christus” (MWV A 26, op. 97).

This Christmas program is a cooperation project with the mixed choir Klangvielfalt from Prenzlauer Berg, which is directed by Marianna Glusberg.

Soloists (soprano, tenor and bass), choir of the Hope Church, choir Klangvielfalt (conductor: Marianna Glusberg), orchestra, Cornelia Dill (concertmaster), Ulrike Triebs (organ), Michael Geisler (conductor)
