The beginnings of the cemetery area "in front of the Halleschen Tor", which consisted of six community cemeteries and was once located at the gates of the city, go back to the early 18th century. Initially set up as paupers' cemeteries, the cemeteries developed into a popular burial place for well-known personalities such as Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, E.T.A. Hoffmann and Adelbert von Chamisso.

On Sundays, when the weather is good, the retired church musician and piano tuner Norbert Haag volunteers on a 1.5-hour tour of the Kreuzberg cemetery. He brings the history of the cemetery and its famous dead to life in an entertaining way.

Registration is not required.

The tour is canceled in case of bad weather.
