The Berlin Perennial Plant Market will celebrate its premiere at Britzer Garten on September 7 and 8, 2024. Since spring 2024, this popular market has been held regularly at three different locations: in the fall at Britzer Garten, in the spring alternately at the Botanical Garden and at Domäne Dahlem.

The extensive Britzer Garten provides the perfect setting for this market, and the impressive sight alone is worth a visit.

In early fall, all the plants at the Berlin perennial market can be seen in full size and often with flowers and fruit. A colorful sea of sunflowers, rudbeckias and asters stretches between the spikes of ornamental grasses and fruit trees.

44 specialist gardeners offer high-quality plants. The range of perennials, grasses and shrubs as well as the selection of popular bulbs and tubers, from classics and rare wild species to the important early bloomers for insects, is huge.

Unique to the perennial market is the large variety of many plant species. Heather plants are now in season at the end of summer. Over 100 different heathers are available for beds, tubs or balconies. We are also spoiled for choice with 50 different fan maples and over 20 witch hazel shrubs. Plus many rare shrubs and perennials from all over the world.

Many passionate gardeners are interested in “climate trees”. This refers to tree species that can cope well with changing climatic conditions. These products are also on offer at the perennial market.

Experts will provide advice on many topics such as “Infiltration and evaporation - using rainwater as a sustainable resource in times of climate change.” Other topics include pruning fruit trees, dividing irises, caring for and repotting indoor orchids as well as information on bees, wasps, hornets and beekeeping.

Autumn is harvest time. Many nurseries and estates present the delicious fruits of their labor, including jams, preserves or distilled products made from grapes, berries or vegetables.

A garden needs more than plants and soil. At the perennial market in the fall, visitors will find fluffy woollen blankets, high-quality forged garden tools, Japanese scissors and turned writing instruments made from over 50 types of wood.
