The Society for the History of Berlin (Gesellschaft Historisches Berlin e.V. (GHB)) invites all interested parties to an exciting lecture on the history and architecture of Berlin Cathedral.

Berlin Cathedral has a chequered history of construction. As early as 1450, the Erasmus Chapel was consecrated as a cathedral church in the newly built electoral palace. Later, Joachim II had the neighbouring Dominican church converted into a court church. Due to its dilapidated state and the close proximity to the castle, Frederick II decided in 1747 to have a baroque new building constructed by the architect J. Boumann.

The lecture gives an overview of the architectural developments of the cathedral in its historical context.
