Doctor and art in Berlin
The art exhibition at Haus Leopold provides an insight into the works of Bodo Niggemann, in which he uses medical materials based on his medical past.
Through the artistic realisation, they appear to the viewer in a new context and unfold astonishing visual effects. In dialogue with this, Bodo Niggemann is showing photographs from the two series ‘At my feet’ and ‘Rain gutters’.
Bodo Niggemann was born in 1951 in Adelaide/Australia and grew up in Hamburg. After his medical career as a paediatrician at the university hospitals in Hanover, Hamburg and Berlin, he ended all medical activities in 2017 and intensified his hobbies as an artist, photographer, drummer (of the band ‘Echte Ärzte’) and author (‘Der Alltags-Anankast’ and ‘Heilkunst?’).
His artistic works can best be categorised as constructivist art. Recurring works composed of many small individual parts dominate, in which each element can in turn be regarded as a small work of art in its own right.
