Special tour with castle employee Friederike Jefferies, SPSG, to the paintings in the Raphael Hall

With the construction of the Orangery Palace, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV continued to live out his "Italian dream" in Potsdam, which had been fulfilled after two trips to Italy. Potted plants overwintered in the plant halls and guests were accommodated in the palace building. But that was not all!

In the heart of the palace, an impressive room was created for copies of works by the Italian Renaissance painter Raphael. The painting room was already at least partially accessible as a museum at that time, because the king wanted to share his love of Raphael's art with everyone.

Palace employee Frederike Jefferies tells the story of the collection, points out the floating Madonnas, the chubby Jesus children, the ancient philosophers, the historical figures - and revives the Raphael cult.
