
The 16th edition of ALFILM - Arab Film Festival Berlin will once again present a diverse programme from 23 to 29 April 2025.
The festival selection of feature films, documentaries and short films, all film productions from the last two years, stands for artistically sophisticated cinema on current topics.
In the ALFILM Selection, film productions from the last two years show the diversity of the current Arab film landscape.
In the ALFILM Spotlight, ‘Canceled Futures, Endless Pasts: Speculative Fiction on and Archival Subversions of the (Post)colonial Condition’ the genre of speculative fiction and the subversive use of archives are at the centre of an artistic examination of the (post)colonial entanglements of the Arab region.Numerous master classes, panel discussions and film talks round off the programme of this year's edition, culminating in a closing party on 30 April at Gretchen.
As part of the special programme 15 Years of ALFILM - 15 Years of Arab Cinema in Berlin, a panel discussion & networking session will take place on Friday, 27 April at Sinema Transtopia in cooperation with AFRIKAMERA, dealing with the question of Arab and African perspectives in the current German film scene.
The festival opens on 24 April with "Bye Bye Tiberias" by Lina Soualem. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and toured several festivals worldwide, where it won numerous awards, including Best Documentary Film at the London Film Festival and the Jury Prize at the Marrakech International Film Festival.
Masterclasses, panel discussions, Film Talks, special screenings, and a Closing Party in Gretchen, round off the varied programme of the 16th festival edition.
