Tip 2: Experience architectural and industrial history in the Industriesalon
The Industriesalon Schöneweide offers a fascinating glimpse into Schöneweide’s industrial past and the story of Elektropolis Berlin. Dive into exhibits from the former television electronics factory, once the GDR's high-tech hub. Guided tours take you on a journey through the history of Berlin’s electrical industry—exploring everything from the imposing industrial facades and the historic AEG Rathenau-Hallen to the modern HTW Berlin campus. Whether it’s a stroll along Wilhelminenhofstraße or a bike tour along the Spree, there’s plenty to discover.
Excitingly, plans are underway to create a boulevard of industrial culture, featuring experimental stations, art installations, and cozy cafés, adding even more charm to the area.
Sustainability tip: Visit the Repair Café Schöneweide every first and second Wednesday of the month, 5–8 PM. Fix your bikes, furniture, mobile phones, and electrical appliances under expert guidance.
And another tip: jazz bands regularly perform at Industriesalon.

Tip 3: Enjoy the local flair at Café Schöneweile
Just around the corner from the Industriesalon, you’ll find Café Schöneweile, tucked into the charming gatehouse. This cozy spot serves up delicious soups, homemade cakes, and quality coffee—a true oasis where hipsters mingle with construction workers and locals chat with visitors.

Tip 4: Nazi forced labour documentation centre
A documentation centre in a former Nazi forced labour camp now tells the story of the exploitation of forced labourers in Germany. In the exhibition rooms, numerous pictures, letters, audio tracks and biographies tell a very personal story of the prisoners. Find out more about the everyday lives of the men, women and children deported for labour and how their lives were shaped by the racist hierarchy of the Nazi regime.
As part of a guided tour, you can visit Barrack 13, one of the first buildings in the camp. Inscriptions from the people who were imprisoned here can still be read on the walls today.

Tip 6: See art in the Reinbeckhallen
Just a short seven-minute walk from MaHalla, you’ll find another remarkable listed industrial hall brimming with artistic innovation. This space is home to the Reinbeckhallen Foundation, which curates exciting art projects in collaboration with both local and international artists.
The foundation works alongside collectives, museums, and galleries to create innovative exhibition formats and experiment with new curatorial practices, offering visitors a dynamic and ever-evolving program of contemporary art. Each visit promises something fresh and thought-provoking.

Tip 7: Marvel at the Peter Behrens Tower
It’s hard to imagine that this stunning structure once housed car manufacturing. With its elegant tower and light-filled atrium, the Peter Behrens Building resembles a palace more than a factory. This listed architectural gem is currently undergoing extensive renovation and modernization, preserving its historical charm while preparing it for the future.
Although the building is not fully accessible during the renovations, you can still explore its fascinating history by booking a guided tour through the Schöneweide Industrial Salon. Don’t miss the chance to learn about its industrial heritage and architectural significance.

Tip 8: Dine on the banks of the Spree at Sonnendeck
True to its name, Sonnendeck offers a perfect spot to soak up the sun. With a spacious outdoor terrace right on the Spree and a floating deck anchored beside the restaurant, this location is ideal for enjoying the waterfront atmosphere.

Once the site of over 100 years of brewing history, this former brewery stopped production in 1995. Now, it’s all about celebrating, dancing and good times. In 2020, the iconic Technoclub Griessmühle, formerly based in Neukölln, found a new home here, and the venue has since flourished with expanded event spaces.
The creators of Revier Südost have also revived the tradition of the beer garden with the Baergarten, a perfect spot to enjoy the site’s historic charm in a relaxed atmosphere. Looking ahead, plans for the area include the establishment of a private university, ensuring the space continues to evolve.

Tip 10: Discover architectural gems in the Funkhaus
Once the broadcasting centre of the GDR, the Funkhaus is now a stunning architectural gem. Explore this iconic site through concerts, guided tours, or by simply soaking in its creative energy. The Funkhaus also serves as a hub for music production, with Catalyst, in partnership with a British university, training students from across the globe in film and music production.
The site features architecturally impressive studios and halls, as well as three event boats anchored nearby. After your exploration, stop by the Milchbar restaurant for coffee or lunch.
- For pizza lovers, Zola im Funkhaus offers delicious slices with a spectacular view of the Spree and Plänterwald forest. Whether you’ve been kayaking, paddleboarding, or just enjoying the vibe, unwind with an aperitif at sunset and feel like you’re on vacation.
