Remembering the Victims of the Wall
The White Crosses Memorial is located on the Spree near the Reichstag building and stands as a memorial to those killed while trying to flee the GDR.
The crosses were originally installed at the spots where the victims had paid with their lives. The white wooden crosses are marked on both sides with the thirteen people killed trying to cross the Wall, mostly between 1961–1965. Another cross is dedicated to "the unknown victims of the Wall."
