Frans Hals - a pioneer of Modernism & inspiration for the art of painting

Frans Hals was one of the most outstanding Dutch portrait painters of the 17th century. His lively and characterful portraits are world-famous. Hals is undoubtedly one of the most important Dutch painters of the 17th century alongside Vermeer and Rembrandt. The innovative and relaxed painting style with which Hals created his works and the characteristic and impressive way in which he captured the liveliness and details of portrayed people in his works is impressive. Frans Hals thus became both a pioneer and a source of inspiration for later Impressionist and Realist artists, and influenced the development of painting. A visit that is definitely an absolute worthwhile experience.

75 world-famous works by Frans Hals & artworks by inspired artists

With his extraordinary painting style and skills, Frans Hals created vivid and realistic portraits that still impress today. The exhibition shows around 75 works, including important paintings such as "Malle Babbe" and "The Lute Player", which is otherwise exhibited in the Musée du Louvre in Paris. Some of his famous works are being shown in Germany for the first time. Some works by inspired artists such as Max Liebermann are shown at the exhibition in the context of Frans Hals.
