Places to commemorate the victims of the Third Reich
The National Socialist victims, war, expulsion and suffering are commemorated at the NS memorials in Berlin.
The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, an impressive field of stelae, is located next to the Brandenburg Gate. Not far away, in the Tiergarten, are the Memorial to the Persecuted Homosexuals and the Memorial to the Sinti and Roma of Europe Murdered under National Socialism. The former concentration camp Sachsenhausen, now a memorial site, is located in the Berlin area. The German Resistance Memorial keeps the memory of the circle around von Stauffenberg and the resistance against National Socialism alive. On Bebelplatz, an empty library is embedded in the ground - a reminder of the burning of books.
