Schaubude Berlin

Puppet, figure and object theatre

Schaubude Berlin has the puppets dance for your entertainment.

At the very edge of Prenzlauer Berg on Greifswalderstraße, some rather unusual characters have found a home. Little witches, flying foxes, and wild giants make their home here and occasionally step into the spotlight if needed by the actors at Schaubude Berlin.  Die neuen Abenteuer von Pettersson und Findus, Wie Kater Zorbas der kleinen Möwe das Fliegen beibrachte, and Wo die wilden Kerle wohnen are all on the children's programme. The theatre features a broad programme with a variety of pieces for different age groups.

The evening performances are for adults, including interpretations of classic plays and sometimes contemporary new productions. In short, serious puppet theatre.

Since 1993, Schaubude Berlin has been a central venue for puppet, marionette, and object theatre with shows for both children and adults. A wide range of classical to experimental productions are on offer. The performances come alive from the artistic expressiveness of things: puppets, objects, material, as can be seen in the 300 performances the theatre offers each year.

Puppet Theatre Festivals

Schaubude Berlin also regularly hosts theatre festivals:

  • The "Theater der Dinge" is an international festival of puppet and object theatre
  • "12 h Open Space"

Tip: Make sure to leave yourself enough time to check out the temporary exhibitions in the theatre foyer.

The Schaubude is located on Greifswalder Straße in Prenzlauer Berg at the S-Bahn station and tram stop of the same name. Tickets can be booked online or purchased at the box office. Ticket prices start at just €4 for children; prices for the evening performances for adults vary by play.
