November in Berlin is anything but grey. This is where the international science, gourmet and film scene meets this month. Listen to imaginative fairy tales, celebrate an extraordinary festival of light and visit the first Christmas markets! And on top of that, Berlin is also celebrating the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in November.

On the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Berlin, as the central location of the historic event, is celebrating the anniversary with various exhibitions, commemorative events and special city tours. These activities offer you a deep involvement in history and allow you to reflect on and understand the events of 1989. On 8 and 9 November, historical posters about the peaceful revolution and new posters about freedom will be on display along the former course of the Wall. Numerous Berlin institutions, associations and citizens have designed the posters themselves for the campaign.

Tip 2: Celebrate Halloween in Berlin

Get the month off to a spooky start: All kinds of parties and events for children and adults take place in Berlin on the night of 31 October to the first of November and all around. The Night of the Spirits is becoming more and more popular in Germany every year. Who is surprised? Carving pumpkins, eating sweets and dressing up in creative costumes put everyone in a good mood. Tip 3: Get your brain cells going at Berlin Science Week

For ten days during Science Week, you can gain an insight into the great scientific work being done in Berlin. The science festival is entitled "Common Ground". The diverse topics range from natural and social science focal points to interdisciplinary art exhibitions and performances. Find out now about the most interesting workshops and lectures.

Tip 4: Go to the opening of the first Christmas markets

In November, the festive season begins in Berlin with the opening of the first Christmas markets! Look forward to a magical atmosphere and numerous attractions. You can immerse yourself in a winter wonderland at Potsdamer Platz and in Lichtenberg from 1 November. Further markets will follow throughout November. A special highlight is the Christmas market at Gendarmenmarkt, which opens its doors on 27 November. The latter will take place on Bebelplatz for the last time this year, as Gendarmenmarkt is in the final stages of its extensive refurbishment

For all cheese lovers, "Cheese Berlin" in Markthalle Neun is a must! At the beginning of November, you can discover artisan cheeses from different regions. Numerous cheese dairies present their specialities, which you can try on the spot. Workshops and tastings also offer exciting insights into the world of cheese production. A perfect event to discover new varieties and expand your knowledge.

Tip 6: Immerse yourself in stories at the Berlin Fairytale Days

Immerse yourself in magical stories and experience readings, theatre performances and interactive events that will delight both children and adults. Take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the imaginative world of fairy tales and legends and even learn something new about Europe's cultural diversity. Cinderella, the Frog King and Beauty and the Beast await you.

Tip 7: Celebrate the reopening of Sankt Hedwigs-Kathedrale

In the heart of Berlin on Bebelplatz, it reopens just in time for Christmas: St Hedwig's Cathedral Berlin. Take part in exciting guided tours through the renovated and remodelled architecture, which has a few surprises in store after six years of closure. With concerts and events such as the "Night of the Open Cathedral", the church has become an inviting, open and interesting place that invites you to enjoy a concert or just some quiet time after a visit to the Christmas market on Bebelplatz.

Tip 8: Browse for gifts at the "Bazaar Berlin"

This large trade fair offers you the opportunity to get to know the diversity of international goods. Over 300 exhibitors from all over the world await you here, offering handmade products, fashion, jewellery and art. There is also a wide selection of international specialities to try. The Bazaar is not just a place to shop, but also an opportunity to get to know other cultures and gather creative inspiration.

Tip 9: Visit the opera night of the German AIDS Foundation

The Festive Opera Night is not only a highlight of the cultural calendar, but also an important contribution to supporting the German AIDS Foundation. November is a film month that is packed with cinema highlights from top to bottom. Lovers of red velvet, popcorn and big screens can get in the mood for the Berlinale, which takes place in February 2025. Too early you say? Real cinema freaks are already sitting on hot coals. The deadline for filmmakers to enter the race for the coveted award is in November. Perhaps you can already spot the next winners at these film festivals?
